Implants

Years before, dentures were the only option to people with lost teeth. The dentures make difficulties often in chewing, talking and laughing. Dental implants are an alternative to classical dentures and bridges when substituting the pulled-out teeth. They provide a permanent substitution of the lost teeth and getting back the normal functions of the jaws with a maximum comfort for the patient. The implants are an artificial support for the tooth, made of titanium, implanted in the jaw by surgery. Actually, the implant substitutes the root of the lost tooth and on which the crown can be positioned.

They can be used as a support of a single tooth, fixed bridge, for partial and complete dentures. Implants are used with adults who have healthy and an appropriate bone to hold the implant. People must be ready to maintain a good hygiene in the mouth, which is necessary after placing the implant. Dental implants are a successful way of substituting the teeth because of their bone integration, which is a natural process in which the bone tissue folds the implant and it practically implanted in the bone. As a result, there is a very hard base for the artificial tooth thus enabling a normal chewing and talking.

The surgery operation for positioning implants is performed in hospital with a local anesthesia. Holes are made in the bone on certain place where the metal implant is placed. There may be a swelling and bruises on the gums and the associated skin. In the first 24 hours cold compresses are used to reduce the swelling. Usually, antibiotics are given to prevent any post-surgery infection. Recovering is pretty fast and without any big side effects. If there is pain, it is usually connected with the infection or implants failure.

Temporal, partial dentures are made during the production of the definite crowns not so that the implants are not visible. After the recovering from the implants is finished, the gums are opened again and is placed. This is a simple procedure, and the recovering is quick, just in 1-2 days. In the last phase, prints are taken and crowns are made and then placed on the implants. After placing the implants it is necessary to provide an exceptional hygiene of the teeth and mouth. Bad habits should be avoided, such as smoking, over-consuming of alcohol, nibbling hard objects that is to say everything that may damage the natural teeth. The health of the soft tissues, bones and the function of the jaw is followed by regular dental examinations.
